We got the information on other accounts from 'Moneyfacts' and the relevant banks' websites on 17 July 2008. All amounts shown are the maximum overdrafts, not necessarily the overdraft you would be able to get. This is because the amount of overdraft depends on your personal circumstances and whether you make regular payments into the account.

Our largest interest-free overdraft continues past your graduation

You can keep your interest-free overdraft for the length of your course - that's up to five years - plus an extra year after you graduate.

AER stands for annual equivalent rate. It shows what the interest rate would be we paid interest on the whole balance once a year. The gross rate (before tax each year) is the rate of interest we pay before we take income tax at the rate set by law. EAR is the equivalent annual rate. It shows what the interest rate would be if interest was taken from your account once a year.

Whether you can get Bank of Scotland accounts and the services we offer depends on your personal and financial circumstances. Credit (including overdrafts and debit cards) is only available to people aged 18 or over and who meet our conditions. We charge higher rates of interest on unarranged overdrafts (that is, overdrafts you have not arranged with us and amounts over an arranged overdraft limit). Under the Bank of Scotland Bank Account conditions, at any time we can tell you to pay us any overdraft, interest and fees you owe on your account. Different terms apply to customers who do not qualify for our Student Current Account. All fees and interest rates are variable, which means that they can change.

To open a Bank of Scotland Student Current Account you must be at least 18 and either be a student in full-time education (a degree course or similar course of higher education) or have stopped being a student in full-time education in the last 12 months. If you have an arranged overdraft you must pay your salary, grant cheque, student loan, money from your parents or other regular payment into your account.  The amount of overdraft we give you depends on your personal circumstances and whether you make regular pauyments into the account. You may not get the full £3000 overdraft.
